I'm currently looking into both of these products, and I keep reading people's complaints regarding the windows taskbar in Parallels. It is easily removed by going to the Applications menu and selecting Hide Windows Taskbar. I'm impressed by the performance reviews of VMWare though.

@Peter Kazanjy,
regarding "Applications" menu item in Fusion menu bar.. Yes, I know it's there - it's a nice feature and hard to miss. I like this type of approach when in Unity much more, compared to Parallels approach where they simply put Windows taskbar on your Mac desktop in Coherence.

I probably speak for majority of Mac users when I say that Windows taskbar has nothing to search on OS X desktop. :)

However, what I liked more with Parallels is the fact that in my Dock I can always see applications running on Windows, where in Fusion this is the case only when in Unity mode.

Wow, thanks for taking the time to do such an exhaustive benchmarking and UI comparison. Your work will certainly help a lot of people make a more informed decision about which application to use for their Windows on Mac requirements.

As a note: everything in the Vista start menu can be accessed via the "Applications" menu item in the VMware Fusion menu bar.
